Her. Him. Alone. Beach house. Every Wednesday. Clothing optional.

Twenty-one-year-old Aria Prince has just moved back to her hometown to start over after a painful divorce. She’s always prided herself on being an early bloomer, but had no idea she’d be married, divorced, and the mother of a toddler by twenty-one. Surely menopause was just a few months away, especially considering the hot flashes and night sweats. Or was that just exhaustion?

Unlike her friends who were at school, going to parties, and sowing their oats—wild and otherwise—Aria’s days were measured in the number of orders she took at her family’s restaurant, the chapters she read in her nursing text, the amount of Cheerios she cleaned up off the floor, and the wet kisses she received from her son.

And that was just fine with her.

But when she began running into her former best-friend Tristan Green—who was home taking care of his sick father—at every turn, she remembered what it felt like to be just Aria. Not a single mother, or sleep-deprived nursing student, or royal screw up. And though she didn’t even have time to shave her legs, let alone consider a sex life, Tristan makes an offer she’d be a fool to refuse.

Each day they’d give themselves to those who needed them. Every day – except Wednesday. Wednesday they’d take what they needed from each other.

Did she forget to mention Tristan was gorgeous?

Or that they hated each other?

Well, you know what they say about the line between love and hate … it’s a skinny-ass bitch. The question was, could they keep their feelings out of it?

Wednesdays is written in Tris and Aria’s point of view. It’s somehow fitting to include two point of views since both of them have their sides of the story that happened 3 years ago. It was quite fascinating how two people’s perception of an incident differs. Tris and Aria were an item back then. They were both senior students. Unbeknownst to each other, they were both harboring feelings that they were too afraid to voice out. The moment Tris’ fear of rejection got the better of him when he refused to invite Aria as his date, things dramatically changed.

Three years after Aria chose to marry Alex instead of running away with Tris, divorced Tris is driving back to the town she’d grown up with her two year old son, Cade, at the backset sans Alex. Her return caused a stir in their town where gossip is a way of life. Aria’s back for good. She’s determined to get back her shit together. She’s going to prove to them that she can make it – that she’s not a failure. She’s even enrolled in a community college to study nursing – and considering she’s afraid of blood, that is a very big move.

Tris Greene, on the other hand, had been busy making a reputation of himself since Aria left him. He left Los Angeles to go home to his ailing father, not out of love, but because he wanted someone to finance his next project. Gone is the geeky teenage high school boy who was frequently bullied back then. Gone is the insecure and lanky nerd. He has toughen up. His muscular built is enough proof that he’s been hitting the gym. Girls flock unto him and he soaks in the attention. Gone is the guy who only has eyes for one woman. In fact, he had been the cause of annoyance and tears among women who wanted more. He had a different girl by his side every time he goes out.

When they crossed paths again, they cannot the sexual tension that springs from both of them. Amidst all the hatred and pain, they cannot deny the fact that they are still attracted to one another. Tris admits that Aria has a stronger effect on him that three years ago. So he devised a plan, a way to eliminate his feelings towards her, every Wednesday, they meet and have a secret dalliance in his beach house. They can let out all the pent up hatred, frustration and sexual tension they are feeling. However, Tris cannot exactly teach his heart what to feel even if his brain if trying so hard to turn his heart against her.

Even her son, Cade, had woven his way into his heart. He cannot help but be captivated by the cute and charming little kid. He’s even embarrassed to admit that he had been looking forward to their dates at the park every day. And even though he’s the least bit experienced when it comes to kid, he admits he loves taking care of kid and even enjoys their kid-like conversations. And now that he’s more invested in his relationship with Aria, he’s really in it to win it.
The fight or flight response kicks in and for once, I choose fight.
When Alex returns in their lives and decides to not push through with their settlement regarding the custody for the kid, Aria decides she’s had enough. She won’t back out this time. In addition, Tris also decided not to let his insecurities get in the way again. And this time, instead of choosing flight, he’s choosing to fight for Aria and Cade.
We’ve finally moved beyond a critical state to stable condition. It doesn’t mean things are perfect. There’s always the unknown – things we can’t expect and can’t explain. And that’s where we’re at right now.
Overall, I loved the novel. Wednesdays was not only a very hot and steamy novel. It was also a story of second chances. It also tells us that love is worth fighting for. We shouldn’t be afraid to put everything at stake if it means getting to spend the rest of your life forever with your loved one. If someone really loves you, he’ll accept you baggage and all. Wednesdays also accentuates the importance of family, and that no matter what happens, they will always be there to guide and support you all the way. Tris and Aria’s relationship shows that relationships are not always about rainbows and ponies. There will always be unexpected circumstances that they’ll bump into along the way. They might be far from perfect, but they are in a stable condition and they have each other to lean unto.
