Book Blitz: Captivated by Emily Jane Trent

Title: Captivated
Author: Emily Jane Trent
Series: Adam & Ella #1
Genres: New Adult, Romance
Ella Walker, still suffering from issues of mental abuse, turns twenty-one and meets the man of her dreams. Can she break the bonds of her emotional prison and be the woman he desires? As an aspiring romance author, Ella struggles to find passion in her work. When Adam Bianci, the gorgeous Italian billionaire appears in her life, he lights up her drab existence. She’s determined not to let him slip through her grasp. But will his secrets and the tangled web of his own abuse keep them apart?
Ella looked away, then back, for verification he was real. Sitting some distance from her, he didn’t move. Not even a twitch. Possibly, he didn’t see her. She stared unable to look away, afraid he’d vanish if she didn’t keep her eyes on him. If she’d thought he was handsome before, he was even more so that morning.

In the pale orange light of the sun, just barely burning over the horizon, his lightly bronzed skin shone. His hair was a golden brown, and though he wasn’t looking her way, she remembered that his eyes were golden amber. She’d looked into them one time, the one time that he’d held her, saved her. He’d looked at her when he’d slid her off his back, and she’d never, ever forget those eyes. The light flattered him. He looked golden, gorgeous and golden, that’s how she’d describe him.

She should go over. Thank him for the other day. Dreadful shyness took her, and she could not will her body to move. She knew if she did manage to walk over, and by some remote chance attempt to thank him, she’d freeze up. She just knew it. Social graces were not high on her list. People often thought she was stuck-up, not knowing that her silence was shyness. If she didn’t move now, she might lose her chance. Yet despite her great need to say something to get his attention, she was riveted to the spot. Just staring. He didn’t give any sign he noticed her, and it occurred to Ella that he didn’t like her. He’d felt compelled to save her, but he’d rather not have anything to do with her.

When did you first realize you wanted to become a writer?

I’ve been a writer since I was a child. I’ve always loved fiction and was an avid reader. The amazing opportunity to be a self-published author makes it possible for me to share my work. That’s what has really changed, and I think it gives readers lots of choices.

Among all the books you have read which of these has significantly contributed to your writing style?

I read a lot of contemporary romance and new adult romance as I love the genre and like to keep up with what readers enjoy. My writing style is unique, and when I write I just block everything else out. Only the story exists. So I don’t know if my style has been influenced except to say that I do focus on writing the types of stories I know my readers want.

Do you believe in love at first sight?

Absolutely, and you’ll see that a lot in my romances. In fact, that can be one of the most exciting factors in the story, how the characters are instantly in love.

Where were you born and where do you call home?

I was born in California and lived there most of my life. A few years ago I moved to Tucson and I love this area of Arizona. It’s mountainous and beautiful.

Is there something that has just recently happened in your life that you would like to share?

Well, this may be the obvious thing. But writing romance and publishing is a great experience. It’s still pretty new for me. I started my Facebook Fan Page and readers talk to me all the time. That’s such a wonderful thing, to be able to chat directly with my readers. I can’t get enough of it.

Can you sum up Captivated in a few words?

Captivated is the story of Ella, a young girl, overcoming any and all personal issues to be with the man she loves. Adam, the hero, has his own struggles and ultimately conquers all because of his love for Ella.

If Captivated was made into a movie or TV series, what actors would you like to see playing your characters?

Seriously, it’s my readers that get to choose. But if I’m on the spot I’d say:

Ellen Page or Chloe Grace Moretz for Ella Walker

William Moseley or Freddie Stroma for Adam Bianci

Any advice to aspiring writers?
Just write is my best advice. I’ll always get my idea and do an outline of the chapters and storyline. When I’m happy with that, I’ll just start writing. It’s best to write the whole story before you start rewriting or changing. The creative flow will stop if you start evaluating it too much before you’ve even told the story. Keep writing and critiques or editing separate.

Is there an author you would really like to meet in person?

There’s no way to choose just one. I’d love to have my favorites in one place where I could get to know them, including J. Kenner, HM Ward, Jasinda Wilder, Sylvia Day, E.L. James, and the list goes on.

What authors have inspired your work?

All amazing books inspire me. I think it’s an ongoing process. Fiction is a thrill because there are no limits to what can be created.

What is Captivated about?

Captivated is a touching story about Ella Walker meeting the man of her dreams in an unexpected way. There’s every reason why it shouldn’t work out between them. But the best reason why it should. They love each other. Yes, it’s love at first sight.

What kind of readers will Captivated appeal to?

The romance will appeal to all readers like their stories steamy. There’s lots of story in this novel, but the sex scenes that are included are hot.

Is Captivated part of a series, and if so, how many books will there be?

Captivated is Book One of Adam & Ella. There will be three novels: Captivated, Charmed, and Cherished.

How is the Adam & Ella series, starting with Captivated, different than your novella series Touched By You, starting with Dark Desire?
Writing novellas is different because they are shorter. Touched By You was inspired by 50 Shades of Grey, and you’ll see that, although it is a unique story on its own.

Captivated is different. I don’t know of another story exactly like it. The story was inspired by the characters themselves. In other words, the romance that evolves was organic because of the characters I chose.

Were you nervous about releasing Captivated?

A little, because my readers had just finished the Touched By You series and there are a lot more sex scenes. Plus Tanner Clarke, the hero, is the classic alpha male, jealous and possessive and dominant.

Adam Bianci in Captivated is strong and virile, yet sensitive and not jealous or possessive. As the hero of the story, he is easy to fall in love with. But I wondered if my readers would miss the jealous, possessive, more aggressive type.

So far, the book has been well-received. My readers say they love the character and the story is touching, loving…..and hot.

What do you have planned next?

I’ll publish the next two Adam & Ella books. Then I’ll start a new series. I already have something in mind – something brand new.

Emily Jane Trent writes steamy romances about characters you’ll get to know and love. The sex scenes are hot, and the romance even hotter! If you are a fan of stories with a heroine that’s got spunk and a hunk of a hero that you’d like to take home with you, these stories are what you’re looking for. The stories will let you escape into a fantasy – and you won’t want it to end - ever.
