Book Review: Until There Was You

Title: Until There Was You
Author: Kristan Higgins

Synopsis:
Posey Osterhagen can't complain. She owns a successful architectural salvaging company, she's surrounded by her lovable, if off-center, family and she has a boyfriend - sort of. Still, something's missing. Something tall, brooding and criminally good-looking.something like Liam Murphy.
When Posey was sixteen, the bad boy of Bellsford, New Hampshire, broke her heart. But now he's back, sending Posey's traitorous schoolgirl heart into overdrive once again. She should be giving him a wide berth, but it seems fate has other ideas..

Genre: Romance

Thoughts on the Book:
I didn't know about this book until one of my Goodreads friend added it to her read books. I got curious when I read her review so I decided to read it.
The story is a bit different from the usual contemporary romance I've been reading mainly because the hero has fallen in love with some other girl first and only noticed the heroine when he comes back from his old town for good, years after his wife died.
Liam Murphy. Well, he's the usual hero in every romantic story - a bad ass at first but reformed when he fell in love with Emma. I like how he prioritizes his daughter over anything else. I find it cute and amusing actually. He tries really hard to be the best father to his only daughter. It's so funny when he anxiously checks out his daughter when she sleeps over at a friend's house, how he cooks dinner for her, buying tampons and napkins for her and how eagerly protective he is of her from her suitor. Aside from being an overprotective father, he is also a mechanic and I love him when he rides his motorcycle because that's kinda hot. How I wish I could be his back rider too. He also has this panic attack which roots from his near-death experience.
Cornerlia a.k.a. Posey. I envy her because she can eat anything without gaining a pound. She's 30 something but she is trapped in a kid's body, which I think is working to her advantage. She runs an architectural salvage company. She loves old things which explains why she lives in an old and creepy church . She has a great dane dog which is four times bigger her size. She dresses up like one of the boys. She has a wonderful family and she'd in love with Liam like forever.
Jon and Henry. They're partners. Yes I know it sucks because they're both gorgeous looking man. Jon has a very good sense of humor and he makes everyone cracks up at his jokes. I like Henry's intelligence. I find it gross when he talks about his amputation operations while they're eating. It seems so normal to him. I guess it is because he is orthopaedic.
Elise and Mac. I like the pair. They're quite the opposites. Elise is a chatterbox as opposed to Mac who seem to praise silence. Though Mac is a bit older for Elise, I think they're quite a perfect match.
I like Nicole. I love how she interacts with his overprotective father. Even though her father often does things which are so over the line, she tries to understand him.
This book exceeded my expectations. I guess this will not be my last Kristan Higgins book to read.

Quotes from the Book:
God grant me the courage to date the men who aren't idiots, the serenity to accept the fact that many men are idiots, and the wisdom to know the difference.
"It's just that sometimes you love a kid just because they need it. Not because they deserve it, not because you really like them...just because they need love."
